Interview with Karen Palotto

VZT:  How did you get started in the travel industry?
The company I had been working for went bankrupt.  I was job searching and saw an ad in the paper for VanZile.  I went on the interview and I knew I wanted the job!!.  My first day was September 10, 2000 and of course new job means overwhelmed from learning new things.  My second day, Sept 11, was the saddest day of my life.  I was proud to work for VanZile that day.  We spoke to many scared people that day, trying to calm nerves and be a voice of comfort over the phone.  Almost 7 years later, am still very proud to be part of such a great organization!

VZT: Where have you been and what is your favorite destination?
I have visited Austria, Germany, Nassau, Bahamas, San Juan, PR, Jamaica, Cancun, Mexico, Florida & The Dominican Republic.  I still want to visit South Africa and Tahiti!

VZT:  What do you do with your free time?
I am a single mom of 2 awesome teenage boys, ages 15 & 17.  They are the joy of my life and reason for being.  I have been singing since I was a small child & have been singing professionally for 27 years.  I am currently in a band called “Brass Taxi”.   I feel very blessed to have the love of my kids and the gift of music in my life.

VZT:  And now – how about the personal info?
Tim Horton's is the best coffee in my book.  I love beaches, warm sunny days and umbrella drinks.  Laughter is the best medicine!  True friends love you just the way you are.  And nothing good comes without hard work and sacrifice.

VZT:  My favorite quote:
"Strive to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To be too wise for worry, too tolerant for hate, too courageous to be fearful and humble enough to know the difference!"
