Interview with Cindy Liberatore

VZT:  How did you get started in the travel industry?
I actually went to college for it back in the day…..graduated with honors too!  It really didn’t thrill me to get out into the real working world, so back to college I went to pursue a different major.  Then one day as I was studying, the light bulb turned on.  I finished the semester and got a job as a travel agent.  I have been sending people all over the world for over 21 years now!

VZT: Okay – so how long have you been in the position you are now?
That is a tough question.  I am currently in the corporate department.  I have also been in the meetings and incentives department and been in an “on site” office doing one company’s travel for a number of years.  I would have to say about 10+ years.

VZT: Where have you been and what is your favorite destination?
I have been fortunate to have been bitten by the travel bug.  I have a bit of vacation time (THANKS KATE!) and I like to be GONE for all of it.  I have traveled the world.  To date, my favorites are India, Israel, and South Africa.  But I have also been to most countries in Europe, Asia a few times, South America, Africa, Caribbean, Mexico, and Canada. BUT…I have never been to the Thousand Islands!

VZT:  What is the strangest thing that has happened to you at work?
It had to have been when the fire department came when Nancy burned the popcorn in the microwave…..twice.  Sorry……..not travel related.  Ok, there was a well traveled person that had their passport stolen from an airport lounge with a foreign country visa that was difficult to get.  See, not a great story on paper.

VZT:  What do you do with your free time?
I love to travel in my free time!  I am a voracious reader, volunteer, spend time with my family, my 2 pups, photography, cooking and wine.  I enjoy learning, so as long as I am learning something new, I am happy.

VZT:  And now – how about the personal info?
I am single.

VZT: Words of wisdom?  I have several

  1. Buy it when you see it.  You will likely never see it again……
  2. When you are traveling, you are a guest in their country, be gracious.
  3. Try to learn a few niceties in their language, Hello, thank you, good-bye.
  4. Leave it as you found it, we shouldn’t leave waste everywhere we travel.
  5. Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up too!
