Interview with Karin Sears

VZT:  How did you get started in the travel industry?
I was working at a large corporation as an administrative assistant, and part of my job was to book and manage travel for several managers in our department. I have always had an interest in the travel business, so I came to Van Zile Travel.

VZT: Okay – so how long have you been in the position you are now?
I have been in the Groups, Meetings & Incentives Department for the past 6 years. I have been working in an administrative capacity, but as I gained more skills, experience and travel business background, I was able to become a Group, Meeting & Incentive coordinator, which I have been doing for over a year now. I am also the administrator of Van Zile Travel’s proprietary online registration system, Rapid Registration.  It has been an exciting journey!

VZT: Where have you been and what is your favorite destination?
I have been all over the US & Canada, but as for travel abroad, I have only been to Great Britain & the Bahamas. I would have to say the Bahamas is my favorite destination. It was like a tropical paradise!

VZT:  What is the strangest thing that has happened to you at work?
That would have to be when I was leaving work one evening and I was chased back into the building by a large, angry, hissing Canadian goose (and about 10 of his buddies). For some reason they were camped out in front of our building. I was able to leave eventually, but I will never look at a goose the same way!

VZT:  What do you do with your free time?
I like shopping, scary movies, spending time with my friends & family and hanging out by my pool in the summer.

VZT:  And now – how about the personal info?
I am married and I have 2 sons, ages 5 and 1 ˝. They keep me pretty busy.

VZT: Words of wisdom?
Life is too short. Don’t sweat the small stuff (and it is all small stuff)
