A Leisurely Voyage of Exploration Cruise with a sense of freedom and time, on this leisurely exploration of the traditional Inside Passage between Seattle and Juneau. This is the route of the original Klondike Gold Rushers of 1898, and great reaches of the island wilderness remain exactly as they appeared a century ago. You visit ports both popular and secluded, and tuck into spectacular glaciated fjords all along the way.

An Awesome Maze of Islands This weeklong voyage takes you far from the traveled mainstream of Alaska’s Inside Passage. You will visit spectacular fjords inhabited only by mountain goats, seals and black bears On this voyage, you will experience justly famous Alaskan highlights, like Tracy Arm and Glacier Bay National Park. Just as often, however, you are exploring remote bays on Admiralty, Baranof and Chichagof Islands. To drop anchor in a cliff-walled fjord, with waterfalls burbling down the rocks and the late afternoon sunlight playing on the mountaintops overhead, is to experience an Alaskan vision of paradise. On several days, as time and tide permit, you will go “gunkholing” – a delightful form of exploration by ship that lets curiosity be the guide. What’s it like in this fjord? What might be seen behind that island? Off you go, to see for yourself. No two Wilderness Waterways cruises will be exactly alike.

Alaska's
Inside Passage Juneau to Ketchikan, 8 nights Ketchikan to Juneau, 8 nights (includes black bears catching salmon viewing opportunity at Hyder) A Unique Voyage of Discovery The radio chatters on the bridge of the Spirit of Discovery – a nearby fishing boat skipper reports that he has just observed a raft of sea otters in Neva Strait. The Captain turns north at once. After you weave through some impossibly narrow waterways, a bed of kelp appears. Right in the middle, floating on their backs, a family of sea otters is dining on some crab. Inquisitive whiskery faces peer up, as you stand enchanted at the rail. This voyage of exploration takes the time to venture into narrow waterways and glacier-covered fjords that are simply the most magnificent natural landscape on earth. Misty Fjords, Tracy Arm, Lynn Canal and Glacier Bay will linger in your memory long after you have returned home.

Prince William Sound lies just south of the rugged Chugach Mountains-a breathtaking maze of forested islands, glacier - carved fjords and wildlife-filled waterways. This area is every bit as spectacular as the traditional Inside Passage, but far less traveled, giving you a hint of what the world looked like after the last Ice Age. Wildlife surrounds you in these waters - bald eagles dot the sky, curious sea otters gaze up at you from their beds of kelp, and we frequently view pods of orcas and other whales that reside here year-round. You'll also see plenty of glaciers calving, as this area is home to the largest concentration of tidewater glaciers in North America. And thanks to the bow-ladder on our ship, Spirit of Alaska, you can walk right to shore on uninhabited islands to explore untouched tidepools.
